2023-2024 Annual Report

September 1, 2023 – August 31, 2024

Impacting All Decisions

Position statements, which are adopted by members during the Business Day of the Fall and Spring General Meetings, are a description to the broader public of ASBA’s beliefs, and what its corresponding asks are on the key issues affecting education in Alberta. ASBA relies on position statements to direct advocacy efforts, prioritize activities and inform committees.

Strategic Priority Goals

Goal 1: Position locally-elected school boards and ASBA as the identified leaders on all educational matters

Goal 2: Advance member priorities through targeted advocacy and strong relationships with all stakeholders

Government Engagement and Advocacy

As a non-partisan association, ASBA advocates on behalf of member school boards regardless of which political party is in power. Through regular engagement with the Minister of Education and various ministries, ASBA ensures that member priorities are heard and considered in discussions and decision-making processes.

ASBA actively participated in government events and announcements, ensuring that the voice of school boards was represented, including at the 2023 Speech from the Throne and the 2024 Budget address, where ASBA attended as guests of the Minister of Education and the Lieutenant Governor of Alberta, alongside colleagues, ministers, MLAs, and member school boards.
